The Creation of Polypress
My name is Meghan Johnson and I am the founder of Polypress. I first became interested in letterpress when I decided that I had to have letterpress invitations for my own wedding. Being a graphic designer I was determined to have the best invitations, which meant having a letterpress invitation. Unfortunately my budget did not allow for me to have my invitations sent out to some fancy letterpress shop on the coast. So, I decided to try to make my own with a little table top press I bought online. And that is when I fell in love for the second time. Since then I have soaked up all the knowledge I possibly could about how to print and design for letterpress. I found a company in Athens, GA that had the exact press I was looking for. The press I decided to start Polypress with is an 8x10 Chandler and Price New Series. Once the press made the trip from Athens to Tulsa my obsession became even worse. Printing may be a dirty job but it is completely hands on which I absolutely love. I am a designer first and foremost which has given Polypress the edge from other invitation shops. I have been designing professionally for six years and wedding invitations are my favorite pieces to design. I believe that the art of letterpress has been seeing a revival and it is time to get Tulsa on the band wagon. Letterpress is a timeless printing method that when done correctly makes such a unique impression. There seems to be a missing link in Tulsa between letterpress and invitations and I am here to fill that niche.
